God's in the little things...

i was so mad at myself this morning.

i locked us out of the truck at the pool and we had to walk back home to get my spare keys.

but then i remembered that things happen for a reason.

things you wouldn't see unless you were walking back home with two curious boys.

little, helpless, feathery things. that fall from their nest. and are bleeding and need medical attention.

rescuing this baby brown thrasher was how we started our day.

chirping birdy is now at wildlife rehab 30+ miles away.

God's in the little things...

Mama's Nest

This little cutie is my most favorite Christmas gift. It was given to me by my husband and represents the two chicks in our nest {they're more like two pterodactyls some days, but alas, my darlings}.

My sweetie ordered it from The Vintage Pearl and in case you don't know, Erin, is a momma of four. She and her team can create this necklace and other handstamped jewelry that'll make you scream your head off. {if you don't believe me, go check her out.} There's something for everyone.

I've already got my eyeballs locked onto something else for Valentine's Day...

Randomness and A Winner

It was crazy 'round here this weekend. We spent most of our time indoors. The severe weather alert that flashed across the screen warned us of the heat index. They told us to stay inside because it felt like 108 degrees outdoors. You don't have to tell me twice. I'm very fragile and wilt easily. We did manage to get out to a pool party, but the water was like bath water - not very refreshing. I grew up at a beach in Florida and never do I remember being warned to stay indoors because of the heat. This is NC, what's the deal?
Anyway, enough about that. I really enjoyed all the sweet birthday wishes and comments that everyone left over the weekend. I love you all dearly. Unfortunately, there can only be one winner of the birthday loot. And the winner is...
*Congratulations*
Oh, and here's a random little decorating tip for you...see the chubby dove in the photo above? He was totally different and looked so real when I received him for Christmas last year. He actually gave me the creeps. I felt like he was staring at me no matter where in the house I put him. But he was special because someone I love gave him to me. And I liked his plumpness (of course). I decided to paint him with a few coats of acrylic paint and I love how he turned out. So, my tip is when you're shopping for accessories, don't pass over something because you don't like the color. The color can be changed very easily.
Is there something in your house that you'd love more if it were painted a different color? (piles of dirty laundry don't count)

"Lil Skinny"

I don't know what it is about this little skinny duck, but I just love him.
He's super tall and thin and cracks me up when he runs.
He lives at a pond near our house with his duck friends,
and I have to fight the urge to grab him, hold him tight and stuff him in my truck.

Needless to say, he gets most of the bread that we bring to the pond.

I'll Fly Away

Last month, I debuted my
Momma Bird with Chicks
ready to frame wall art on canvas.

I just finished a custom order for these two:

~For the Momma with one chick~

~and for the Momma of 3, whose youngest chick recently flew to heaven~

{see her little crown?}

If you're interested in ordering one in time for Mother's Day, there's still a blip of time left.
Have a sweet day!

Momma Bird

It's not too early to start thinking about
what to get Mom for Mother's Day.
My mom is one of the hardest people to buy for
(sorry, Mom. You know it's true)

Therefore, I've created...

Momma Bird
with her chicks.
It's fun, original art done on canvas.
You get to pick the colors and the amount of chicks.
This is one I made for my mom.
She has 5 chicks and LOVES purple.

Also makes a great gift for Grandma.

Taking orders now to be done in time for Mother's Day.
Check out my etsy shop for details.

Everyday Wreath

Yesterday, I made this "everyday" wreath.
I wanted something very simple without lots of fluff this time.
Something that I could hang on the front door
other than my chocolate wreath and Christmas wreath.
Something that didn't shout holiday or theme.
(well, there is a theme around here and it's bird related.
I am The Chubby Dove for goodness sake).

Enter:

This pitiful wreath that's been lurking in the garage.
It had seen its fair share of sunrises on our front door in FL .
The leaves had turned an awful neon green.
Yeah, no one needs neon plastic leaves on their front door.
No one.
I always planned to put it out of its misery and yesterday was its lucky day!
I pulled all those nasty, little neon leaves off.

I didn't remove the yellow wrap that was around the foam.
(a combo of being too lazy and too excited, I guess)

In the midst of all the gluing of the new leaves,
I forgot to take pictures.
But, you'll see, it was pretty simple.

The "new leaves" were leftovers from my chocolate wreath project.
I only used the rosebuds to make that wreath, so I had varying sizes of leaves left.
(I never throw anything away that could later be used to make something else.)

Ok, so I glued the leaves down in the same direction.
The big ones on the bottom,
followed by the medium sized ones and finally the small
ones 'round back to cover up the foam.

Then, I added this....
(we're a family of four)

The nest already had a metal clip in the middle of it that I poked through the foam
and then hot glued down for extra support.
I reused the same cream colored chiffon ribbon.
It was still in great shape.
No neon.

And there you have it.

The boys are looking forward to checking the eggs
when they look through the peephole, too.
every.day.

Friday Faves

Who doesn't love a good sign?
I fell in love with these two while in FL last month at Hobby Lobby.

This laundry sign makes doing load after load a little more bearable.

And finally, I received this cutest ever business card holder yesterday from my mom.

She found it at Cracker Barrel and knew I would love it. She was right!

Have a fun weekend everyone...
We're having friends over for a fish fry tonight (another favorite of mine. Woo!)

Friday Faves

This cloche and stand was a little gift from my mom

that I brought back from FL this past week.

I LOVED, LOVED, LOVED the wee bitty birdie,

but I wasn't so crazy about the color.

I grabbed my white acrylic paint and went to work.

Sanded it a little here and a little there.....

and now I have a habitat for the snowmen my boys made me.
