handmade valentine's day

I was inspired by all the ideas on pinterest this year when it came to Valentine's Day, but the more I thought about it, the more I wanted to come up with something on my own. Something easy and quick, but handmade, of course!

I'm sure someone else has done these before, but here are the valentines our guys are handing out to their friends tomorrow. Fun and super easy!

Pop Rocks with a tag that reads: YOU ROCK! {scrapbook paper, Sharpie, tag maker, ribbon, and candy that was 3/$1 at Dollar Tree}

Little Debbie Star Crunch with a tag (secured with Glue Dots) that reads: OUR FRIENDSHIP IS OUT OF THIS WORLD. {other supplies used were a circle cutter, scrapbook paper, heart stickers, and a Sharpie}

Ring Pops with a tag attached that reads: YOUR FRIENDSHIP IS A REAL TREASURE {Ring Pops are 4/$1 at Dollar Tree, tag maker, scrapbook paper, glitter marker, and ribbon}

and finally, MoonPies with a tag that reads: THERE'S NO ONE IN THE WHOLE UNIVERSE LIKE YOU. The little robots I drew freehand (no two are the same- just like us). I bought a box of MoonPies at Harris Teeter for a couple of bucks, used more scrapbook paper, my circle cutter, Sharpie, and attached the tag with Glue Dots}

Hope my ideas inspire someone else...
Happy Love Day!

Love Is In The House

Happy Valentine's Day!

My hubby and I did something a little different this year. No expensive dinner, no fluff, no goo.

I bought him much needed insulated camo coveralls, so he'll be toasty next time he hunts.

(Yes, he's a hunter, but I still can't help but LOVE him to pieces)

Nothing says 'I love you' like camouflage, right?

I said to think of it as a big, warm hug from me next time he's in his tree stand.

He bought me a pair of boots that I have been wanting for a long time and a little succulent.

I fresh LOVE flowers, but they die so quickly. I always tell him to buy me a plant instead.

We'll have dinner with our boys. I'm planning to make a special surprise for dessert.

Then, he and I will watch a movie together after the boys go to bed.

Simple and sweet.

Hope your day is also full of much love!

Decorated with Love

With all the decorating I do for Christmas and wintertime,
I LOVE to get out my pinks and reds and decorate for Valentine's Day.
I don't go crazy, but there are little bits sprinkled about in our home.
The heart above was a purchase I made at Target a couple of years ago.
I was going to make one myself, but when I factored in supplies and time, it was a better deal to get this one already made.

This glass heart I got as a gift about 10 years ago from a friend.
I still think it's one of my favorites.
So simple.
Next to it, is a part of a love note written on a napkin
that I gave my son earlier this week in his lunchbox.
When I went to take this picture, I realized he had saved it and
put it here for me to see.
(He's gonna make some girl a great hubby one day!)

This LOVE banner with vintage valentines in the background,
looks great hanging across a doorway or mantle.
One is for sale right now in my shop.

This heart hanging from our hallway mirror was actually the bottom part of a box.
I bought some craft supplies a few years ago and thought the box was so cute.
I tied a piece of chiffon ribbon to it and now it adds a little splash of color to the mirror.

Do you decorate for Valentine's Day?

Love Note

Yesterday, my seven year old son came home from school with a little bit of a bad attitude. After correcting him, I saw him go over to my desk and get a piece of paper. I thought, 'surely, he's scribbling some kind of nasty note because I addressed his behavior'.

No, instead I got this:

"Dear Mom,

You are so special to me. I would trade nothing. All I want is you".

(and at the top, is a little sketch of his finger pointing to a stick girl me with an "eye heart")

God, I love that boy.

The Dove's In Love

Today my hubbie and I are celebrating our 10th Wedding Anniversary!

It was Good Friday '99. We made plans to go fishing together on the Intracoastal Waterway in Jacksonville, FL. However, I didn't realize it wasn't a good time to fish. The tide wasn't right, the fish weren't biting. I was so clueless and he took me anyway.

The mud minnows that we used for bait were so cute and I wouldn't bait my hook with them. I couldn't handle the squish sound, so my man would always put them on the hook for me. I would turn my head and put my hands over my ears and say loudly, "Lalalalalalalalalalala!" until I could see my pole out of the corner of my eye, fishy wiggling on the end of the hook.

Great. Thank you. Cast....
This time was no different.

So after we get out onto the water in his jon boat, I hand him my pole. (Little did I know, he had attached a special clasp to the end of it before he picked me up that day).

He "baits" my hook and I'm doing my normal ritual and this time when I turn my head and grab my pole, on the end DANGLING OVER THE WATER is my beautiful ring.

He got down on one knee and proposed right there.

Here is a shadowbox that I made from a 100+ year old picture frame that my mom had given me. Because the glass "bubbles out", I took some of our wedding items such as my gloves, his bowtie, our wedding invitation, program and put them inside.
I need to replace the old chain with some yummy ribbon that goes with our master suite, but you get the idea.

Next to it on the wall, I have a little sign that I got on clearance at Hobby Lobby for $2.72. Ain't it sweet?

Wishing you a day full of love!
